1 Jan 2014

1 Jan 2014 - today brought very hot record high temperatures in South Australia: Port Augusta, Coober Pedy and Tarcoola.  No other notable weather apart from perhaps some heavy rain from the remnants of TC Christina in the centre of Western Australia

1 Jan 11

1.00 pm ish.  Vague middle level trough over Victoria, which may create some 'weather' this afternoon.  A wannabe, but never was midget cyclone exiting stage left from Western Australa, and most prominently a flood of biblical proportions over Central Queensland, with most problems in the Burnett and Fitzroy River basins.  This is all the result of an unsual southerly incursion of the monsoon trough this time last week.  Fitzroy River basin is one of the largest in Australia.  Flood water in Rockhampton last night flowed almost as fast as the Tsunami inland progress in Aceh in 2004.  Houses on stilts will cope okay, but many others, under or not insured and being innundated, will cause their owners much financial heart ache.
